FiA's Masterful Synthesis of
Method & Story

Motivation for a New Program
The principal motivation for a new program comes from those who love and have used French in Action (FiA) but are unable to continue to do so. We have heard time and again both that previous adoptions of FiA are being abandoned because the program is perceived as out-of-date... a sentiment more true in appearance than reality, but we digress. This anecdotal evidence matches the decline in sales and adoptions noted by the distributor of the textbook and workbook, Yale University Press.

There is currently on the market no replacement for FiA. Again we hear a chorus of those who have had to stop using FiA complain that there is no suitable pedagogical program on the market. They are joined by Teachers in diverse departments who change their textbooks every few years, constantly seeking something better but never finding it.

Narrative and Pedagogical Continuity
A new program that provides both narrative and pedagogical continuity from FiA promises to solve these problems.
The narrative continuity will please the fans of the original program, both teachers and independent users.
The pedagogical continuity will assure teachers that the program is of substance and effective, unlike their current adoptions, which cause so much frustration and require changing every few years.
Introducing new generations of students to the new generation of FiA characters will encourage many to return to the original series, giving it new life and keeping FiA at the heart of French language pedagogy.
Innovative updates to the cultural and linguistic diversity of
le monde francophone will make this new program unique among current offerings, where this diversity is treated superficially. In the new program based in Montreal, but embracing the francophone world, cultural (and indeed individual) diversity will be the very essence of the new narrative vehicle for the spirit of FiA
